Play Ball, Mr. and Mrs. San Diego

Petco Park

So I woke up this morning, immediately checked my email, and discovered that I have been partially endowed with the power of E-God.

I am now a god damn blogger. I am now an overlord of the Internet. I am now more powerful than Karl Ravech and Jayson Stark combined. I will reach the masses and change the world! You’ve got nothing on me, Dayn Perry! You are mine! Bigger Board better bump some of those bozos off, cause I am here et finite! I am that Noise that rattles through the night, sparing you every sleeping hour in exchange for baseballisms, infinite wisdoms, and moral compunctions! I have risen from the ashes of my fantasy baseball team! I am Josh Hamilton!

Okay… so I may have gotten a little carried away there. I’m just so excited - perhaps this is the same excitement buzzing in San Diego recently. The Padres are out of last place! Extra! Extra! Get your newspaper! The Padres are out of last place!

And only 6.5 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks?

Yes, it is true. I don’t speak nonsense this time. As we speak, Peavy is strapping on the armor in anticipation of his return from the DL on Thursday. Once Chris Young removes all the mirrors from his house/locker, he’ll be back as well. Then maybe those 6.5 games turn into 5.5, and then 3.5, and then 3, and then maybe 4 or 5 again, but who really knows? All I know is I’m a San Francisco Giants fan.

Yes, that is also true. I admit it. I live in San Diego, enjoy the Padres, enjoy the idea of the Padres even more, and plan on moving into Petco Park anyday now. Or setting up life camp on the pavement just below Hoffman’s gargantuan leg kick. But I’m a true Giants fan.

But not to worry, I believe the target audience here is San Diego baseball fans. And I am definitely one of those. So stay tuned…
